Rascal: June 2010 Mix
Posted on June 25th, 2010
It’s been a while. I was a bit put off by the response I got for donations. This show costs me money and when it started to get so popular I needed a seperate server just for my podcasts I didn’t think 2 dollars was asking a lot. It made me realize people just don’t want to pay for anything when it comes to music. That is why the big record labels are in the shitter and the small labels are splitting peas. I wish we could charge a couple bucks for a podcast so we could compensate all the artists on the mix and make some money on the side. The last mix had over 60,000 downloads… only if Itunes would let us charge for a podcast … then this could be my only job and I’d be getting out a new mix every 2 weeks. I get emails all the time from people asking when the next mix is coming out… and it’s almost been a year. I want to thank those few who donated… each and every one of you have deserved a fresh mix since last year, and I apologize for taking so long.
The new mix is a manic rollercoaster ride from blues, jazz, funk, latin, hip hop, to dubstep… Enjoy the ride.

Poor Ragged Rascal “Dirty Blue”
Posted on October 3rd, 2009
Here is a brand new track that I’d love to hear your feedback on. It’s a 90 BPM broken beat, instrumental hip hop, trip hop sort of vibe. It’s got deep jazzy atmospheric chords and sounds with a wobbly analog dubstep flavored bassline.

Amadou & Mariam – Sabali (Poor Ragged Rascal’s Future Funk Remix)
Posted on July 30th, 2009
Here is a another unofficial remix that started when I was trying to come up something for my dj sets. It’s some sort of future funk electro afro house blend. It’s a remix of Amadou & Mariam – Sabali. These two are quite a story, often known as “the blind couple from Mali”. They met at Mali’s Institute for the Young Blind, and found they shared an interest in music. They emerged from the underground last year and now find themselves opening for Coldplay. You can find out more about them here:
www.myspace.com/amadouandmariam
And you can buy the original song of “Sabali” here:

The remix will be included in my next podcast which will be uploaded August 1st. Feel free to leave your comments.

ADELE – Hometown Glory (Eola Heights Remix)
Posted on July 15th, 2009
Here is an unofficial remix of Hometown Glory by ADELE. The remix was done by myself (Poor Ragged Rascal) and Speak Easy. If you’d like to hear the original artist version just click the itunes link.![]()
… All feedback is welcome, as it’s still a work in progress. The track keeps the same basic structure of the original song because it’s just about perfect in it’s ebb and flow as it is. There is an added section at the end for dj’s to mix out of. The song is best described as breakbeat future funk and neo soul. The bass line is in your face… enjoy.

The Funky Soul Burner
Posted on December 14th, 2008
These comments were written by fellow podcaster – The Funky Soul Burner ….
“Firstly, I’d like to say I love your mixes, and have much respect. Thank you very much for all the inspiration and supporting great music all around. Oh, and since I’m at it, the “Biosphere” Obama mix was ridiculous!!!! Played it 3 times in a row…love it! The Biosphere was so surreal and ambient. It intensified the moments before the actual election for me…really sort of personified it. It’s very difficult to put it into words, but it reminded me of when I was in London for 3 months and I went to a club called The End…a place run by Mr C and I think Layo of Layo & Bushwacka!…and Mr C had a set that was so intense that there was not one person in there dancing in their own little sphere, almost tranced into this outer-world of music…I loved it. But I could listen to this mix on massive speakers and just get carried away in its subtlety and charm. Wicked stuff, mate.
just a quick little thing … did you come up to NYC to play a party i’d say about 4-5 months ago? my mentor, Pierre said he met you because after i introduced Black Market Funk to him, he went and told his friend…his friend (probably some French guy…), loved your music, and from what i was told, wanted you to play a gig for his party. i wish i could have been there, but unfortunately i had work, but Pierre said it was absolutely amazing.
anyway, thought that was pretty cool.”
